Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a precondition with a high figure in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) due to several factors.
The same risk factors (diabetes, evaporation, and hypertension) are implicated in the pathogenesis of both diseases.
In summation, certain drugs used in the communication of CVD may induce ED ( eg, thiazide diuretics, digoxin, and beta blockers).
Aim
The aim of this memoriser, which was presented at the Scientific Sessions of the 49th Dweller Educational institution of Cardiology association was the classification of the efficacy and condom of viagra for the direction of ED in patients with CVD.
Methods
A sum of 224 men with ED and CVD, who were not under nitrate therapy, were randomized to either viagra (n=136) or medicament (n=88) in this 12-week, double-blind study; 83% of the men had hypertension, 19% had previous myocardial infarction; 17% had coronary arteria disease, 17% had angina pectoris, 14% had previous coronary shunt, 12% had peripheral vascular disease, and 5% had congestive courage fate.
The medicinal drug of sildenafil was started at 50 mg, which could be adjusted to 100 mg or 25 mg based on efficacy and tolerability.
The medicament was taken approximately 1 hour before sexual action, not more than once daily, 10 metre per period of time on scale value.
The efficacy of the handling was assessed using Marriage proposal 3 (Q3; quality to achieve erections) and Interrogative 4 (Q4; power to maintain erections) of the International Power of Erectile Mapping (IIEF).
The answers were then graded on a quantitative relation of 1 (almost never/never) to 5 (almost always/always).
Results
viagra idiom significantly improved erectile software in men with CVD and ED.
The mean mark for Topic 3 (ability to achieve erections) increased from 1.8 +/- 0.14 at service line to 3.9 +/- 0.16 (P < .0001) in week 12 in patients receiving viagra in equivalence to a effect of 2.2 +/- 0.19 to 2.4 +/- 0.19 in the medicinal drug grouping.
Accordingly, the mean evaluation for Uncertainty 4 (ability to maintain erections) increased from 1.5 +/- 0.12 at service line to 3.5 +/- 0.18 (P < .0001) in week 12 in patients receiving sildenafil in equivalence to a thing of 1.6 +/- 0.14 to 2.1 +/- 0.21 in the medication mathematical group.
The periodical of patients reporting an advance of their erections was significantly higher in the viagra abstraction (71% vs 24% in the medicinal drug group).
The most common adverse events were flushing (17% of viagra, 2% placebo), worry (15% viagra, 1% placebo), and dyspepsia (4% viagra, 0% placebo), with nearly all of these state mild or moderate.
Ten patients (7%) in the viagra radical and 8 patients (9%) in the medicine abstract entity discontinued treatment; only 1 case discontinued because of an adverse outcome (placebo group), the others because of lack of efficacy.
Four patients (3%) in the viagra set and 2 patients (2%) in the medicinal drug radical had serious adverse events, but none were considered by the investigators to be discussion related.
Natural event
The authors conclude that oral viagra is an effective and well-tolerated care for ED in patients with CVD who are not taking nitrate therapy.
Patients in the sildenafil care building block had significant increases in their abilities to achieve and to maintain erections.
The adverse events were mild to moderate in type, and besides flushing, no adverse events were deemed to be communicating related.
Remark
This field of study has shown that sildenafil soft is well tolerated in patients with cardiovascular disease who are not taking nitrate therapy and is thus in concordance with previous studies.
Nevertheless, it has to be used with circumspection, particularly in certain participant role groups that have not been sufficiently studied, such as patients with unstable heart disease, congestive core nonachievement, rower, or uncontrolled hypertension, or in patients after an acute myocardial infarction, among others.
